Meet the Artist

Tracy Strange divides her time between two studios, one at Mosquito Point, near Metung on Victoria's Gippsland Lakes, a quiet peninsula only accessible by boat, and one in Richmond, close to her Melbourne home. Wherever she is, she is quite literally immersed in the landscape she paints.

Growing up in the Western District of Victoria, Tracy absorbed the cold, misty mornings and wide open skies that still linger in her work today. She is self-taught and instinctive, working quickly and without sketching; building up surfaces through washing, rubbing, dragging and re-working until something true emerges.

Her paintings are dreamy and temporal, filled with careful observation and long memory. She works mainly in oils on board and canvas, chasing the quality of light that comes from years of living close to the land and the water.

Tracy is always up for a chat and welcomes visitors to both studios to view her works in person. If you're in the Gippsland Lakes region or passing through Richmond, she'd love to meet you.
